Naadam festival is one of the most popular festivals in Mongolia. One of the best ways to experience the festival is definitely attending the mini Naadam held in small towns and villages out of Ulaanbaatar. During this 2 days long festival you’ll find quite interesting things to feast your eyes and attract your attention such as the amazing opening ceremony of the festival, traditional wrestling, open field horse races and the public in their colorful traditional dresses. Tour itinerary
Day 1. Ulgii town, Western Mongolia
Fly from Ulaanbaatar to Ulgii. We will welcome you at the airport and transfer you to one of the best hotels in Ulgii. After having lunch at a restaurant, visit the local museum and bazaar. Do a short hike to the lookout to view the town.

Day 2. Eagle hunter family
After breakfast, drive to meet a true eagle hunter who lives a 2-hour drive from Ulgii. Opportunity to see and photograph his majestic bird. Enjoy local herder people’s hospitality. Time to observe their nomadic lifestyle. Drive back to Ulgii. Dinner at a restaurant. Get rest.

Day 3. Naadam festival day 1
In the morning we’ll hurry to the town stadium along with the colorfully dressed locals to watch the opening ceremony of the Naadam festival. The festival goes on with opening speeches, festival parades, musical performances and first rounds of the traditional wrestling competition. We’ll taste ‘Huushuur’ Naadam’s special dish as lunch. Dinner at a restaurant. Good rest.

Day 4. Naadam festival day 2
The second day’s main event is horse racing competition and in the morning we’ll drive 15 min out of the city to a hill where the competition takes place. The Mongolian horse race is a cross-country event, with races 15–30 km long. The length of each race is determined by horses’ age.

Day 5. Drive to Altai Tavan Bogd NP
Start our journey with a scenic drive through the splendid countryside to Mongolia’s most attractive alpine mountains, TavaBogd Mountains. After 5 to 6-hour drive, we will reach Tsagan Gol Valley (White River), the gateway to the Tavan Bogd Mountains. Enjoy the unforgettable stay at Tsagan Gol! This stunning valley with its small blue lakes and impressive alpine panorama offers amazing views. Here Tuvan people spend their summer.

Day 6. Tavan Bogd mountains & glaciers
Go for a horseback hike to view majestic Tavan Bogd peaks and Potanin glacier. Return to the valley in the late afternoon. The rest of the day is at your disposal.

Day 7. Return to Ulgii
The trip comes to an end. Return drive to Ulgii. Stop for a picnic lunch en route. Check in to your hotel. Some time to do souvenir shopping. In the evening we’ll gather for a farewell dinner.

Day 8. Flight back
We’ll transfer you to the airport. Fly out of Ulgii to Ulaanbaatar.
